Our man Phil Smith has dished out his player ratings – scroll down and click through the pages to see who he felt impressed at the Stadium of Light:
1. Jon McLaughlin - 7
Got away with a poor clearance early on but was excellent after that. Controlled his penalty box and dealt comfortably with the barrage of high balls into his box. 7 Photo: FRANK REID
2. Luke O'Nien - 6
Frustrated in the opening period as he was punished for a number of soft fouls, but it was a big tick that Ronan Curtis was replaced by Kenny Jackett having mad next to no impression on that flank. 6 Photo: FRANK REID
3. Jordan Willis - 7
Had an absolutely excellent second half. Edgy in possession in the first but a great header to score and defended so well in pressurised moments as Portsmouth went in search of the winner. 7 Photo: FRANK REID
4. Alim Ozturk - 7
Made some very important covering challenges and blocks in the second half. Did the basics well and has surely cemented his place in the side for the time being. 7 Photo: Ian Horrocks
