Daniel Ballard, Jewison Bennette, Abdoullah Ba, Leon Dajaku, Aji Alese, Jack Clarke, Alex Bass, Amad Diallo, Edouard Michut and Ellis Simms have all signed for the Black Cats since the end of last season.
Still, while many of the new arrivals will be hoping to break into the starting XI, Sunderland have made a promising start to the new campaign, taking 11 points from their opening seven Championship fixtures.
Here’s what we think the team’s strongest starting XI and bench would look like right now.

2. CB: Luke O’Nien
With Daniel Ballard expected to be sidelined for the next few months, O’Nien’s versatility is still a big asset. The 27-year-old has performed well on the right of a back three. Photo: Frank Reid
