Gale force winds to hit Sunderland as video shows huge waves batter Roker Pier

Video footage shows waves crashing over Roker Pier at high tide as the Met Office forecasts strong winds of up to 46mph in the city.
It’s set to be a fairly cloudy with sunny intervals throughout the day with temperatures reaching 12C – a much cooler temperature than recent weeks.

Hide AdBut gale force winds means it will feel much cooler along the coast with gusts of 46mph expected to hit Sunderland at around 1pm on Friday afternoon.
Forecasters predicts it will only feel as warm as 8C in the city and there is a small chance of rain between 1pm and 2pm.
A spokesman for the Met Office said: “A cold and windy day with strong northerly winds, perhaps touching gale force along coasts adding to the cold feel. There will be a mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers throughout, with showers occasionally heavy.”
Heading into the weekend, forecasters predict a cloudy Saturday with winds expected to pick up again on the afternoon – with gusts expected to top 40mph.

Hide AdThere is a 50% chance of rain in the city between 10am and 12pm on Saturday, September 26. Highs of 12C but it will again feel much cooler.
Conditions are expected to ease on Sunday, September 27, with although it will likely remain cloudy and overcast throughout the day.
High temperatures are expected to reach 12C again.
