Silksworth and Ryhope - Down Your Way
Congratulations to Ross Jackson, an inspirational member of the Blue Watch Youth Centre in Ryhope.He was part of the brilliant Team Rickshaw Challenge, cycling from Jedburgh to London, a 470-mile journey, along with television presenter Matt Baker. Their daily progress was televised on BBC’s The One Show each evening, raising money for Children in Need. It has so far raised more than £4m. Ross is a member of the disability group and participates in biking sessions supported through funding from Children in Need. His confidence with bike riding has grown throughout his time with Blue Watch and he now offers support and guidance to new members. His bike riding has been on local routes and more challenging routes including the Coast-2-Coast ride and rides in London.
Everyone is welcome to join the brass band carol service with refreshments to be held in the Village Surgery, Silksworth Health Centre, on Tuesday, December 6. All are welcome.

Hide AdSilksworth Community Carol Service with the Millfield Salvation Army Band will be hosted by the IM Methodist Church, behind Blind Lane, on Wednesday, December 14, at 7.15pm. If you would like to make a Child’s Christmas special this year then please take along a new child’s toy or something suitable for a teenager with you to the service. All are welcome.
St Leonard’s School, Silksworth, is holding a Christmas market on Friday, December 16, from 9.30am to 11.30am. There will be many stalls, refreshments and games. This event is being organised by the Parent/Teachers’ Association and all proceeds go directly to the pupils. Everyone is welcome.
Every year StBenedict’s Hospice gives people the opportunity to remember their loved ones by dedicating a light to them on their Light Up A Life Christmas Tree, which will be lit at a special service on Sunday from 3pm to 5pm. All who wish to dedicate a light are welcome to attend.
The One Stop Shop in Blind Lane, Silksworth, organised a Children in Need event and raised £320. The staff would like to thank all the customers for their generous support, which is always appreciated.
A Christmas fair will be held at Ryhope Infant School Academy on Monday, December 5, at 3.15pm in the school hall.
