Metro services suspended as man brought to safety from Sunderland bridge

@My_Metro tweeted at around 2pm on Tuesday, September 1 that services in both directions had been stopped between Sunderland and East Boldon due to a police incident.
Services resumed a little over 10 minutes later when the incident was safely concluded.

Hide AdThe RNLI inshore lifeboat was among the emergency services mobilised to assist police.
A Humber Coastguard spokesman said: “There was a police-led incident with a male on the railway bridge.”
A Northumbria Police spokesperson added: “We can confirm we received a report of concern for a man in Sunderland who had climbed onto the wrong side of the railings on the Metro bridge near to St Peter’s station.
"Emergency services attended the scene and Metro services were temporarily suspended. However, the man has since been brought to safety.”
