Drop-in sessions are held at the YMCA Centre, 2- 3 Toward Road, each Tuesday from 2pm to 4pm. They offer advice on the types of accommodation at the YMCA for 16 to 35 years or you can ring 0191 567 6160 for advice.
Sunderland Antiquarian Society Archives at the Sunderland Antiquarian and Heritage Centre, 6 Douro Terrace, is open for research on Wednesday and Saturdays from 9.30am to noon over the summer period.

Hide AdSunderland Maritime Heritage Centre, 2 Church Street East, is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am to 4pm. You will be able to see the progress of the tenth scale model of Jack Crawford’s ship, HMS Venerable, and have a tour of the visitor centre plus have a free cup of tea or coffee. During the last month it has played host to several visits from schools also attended Seaham Marina with the Venerable performing a play on Jack nailing the colours to the mast. Members also had their Museum in a Box to teach people ship repairing skills, ie wood caulking, knot tying and use of hand tools. If you would like a to visit to your group, all they ask is a donation to cover expenses, ring 0191 510 2540 or email [email protected]. If anyone has any shipyard memorabilia such as old rivets, welding mask, hand tools, tea cans, caulking mallets/irons you would like to donate, it would help to authenticate the shipyard environment for children’s visits.
Donnison School, Church Walk, Sunderland SR1 2BJ. The Donnison School Heritage and Education Centre is a unique heritage attraction offering something for everyone in the heart of Old Sunderland. The School was established in 1778 for young girls through a provision made by Elizabeth Donnison in her will. Go along to meet the staff and to find out about school life in Victorian Sunderland. Open Days are Wed and Fri.
