The next Lovell Lecture at Donnison School is on Monday, December 5, from 1pm to 3pm. Speaker will be Janette Hilton on Christmas at the Workhouse. Entrance is £3 for visitors, members £2.50, which includes refreshments. All are welcome.

Friends of Sunderland Museum (Fosums) will meet on Saturday at the Eden Cafe in Sunderland Museum, Burdon Road, at 2pm for their Christmas party. This is a ticket-only event.

Sunderland Maritime Heritage Centre, Church Street East, has extended its opening hours so you can now visit on a Saturday from 10am to 2pm. The centre is also now offering a tool sharpening service to visitors.

Book an Afternoon Christmas Victorian Tea for you and your friends in Donnison School, a grade II listed building. Cost is £8 per person, which includes coffee or tea with scones, sandwiches, mince pies and an illustrated talk. Places are available on Thursday and Friday from 1pm to 3pm each day. Toddler Group meets on Tuesdays at Sunderland Minster from 9.30am to 11.30am. Refreshments are available for parents and children. All are welcome.

Sunderland Antiquarian Society Archives at the Sunderland Antiquarian and Heritage Centre, 6 Douro Terrace is open for research on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9.30am to noon.

Drop in sessions are held at the YMCA Centre , 2- 3 Toward Road each Tuesday from 2pm to 4pm. It offers advice on the types of accommodation at the YMCA for 16 to 35-year-olds. You can also ring 0191 5676160 for advice.

Every Friday at The Salvation Army, Cairo Street, Sunderland, there is a free coffee morning from 9.30am to 11.30am, along with a table-top sale.

On Thursday, December 8, The Salvation Army, Cairo Street, is holding a community carol service, during which a collection will be taken for The Anthony Nolan Trust – Diamond Blackfan Anaemia Fund. It will be an evening of carols, with guest soloist and Southwick Community Primary School Choir. Sunderland Citadel Salvation Army Band, Songsters and Timbrelist will also be performing. Everyone is welcome to go along.
