Man set to appear in court after a Washington crash leaves a 29-year-old seriously injured

Police received a report at around 4.40pm on Sunday, June 20, that a silver Ford Mondeo had been travelling east on Sulgrave Road when the car left the road and collided with a tree.
Emergency services attended and a 29-year-old man, who was a passenger in the car, was taken to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.

Hide AdIt is understood that he currently remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition
The driver of the vehicle had left the scene on foot following the arrest but was tracked down and arrested by officers.
Now, 35-year-old Lee Owens, of no fixed abode, has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop after an accident and failing to report an accident.
Owens is set to appear before magistrates in South Tyneside today (Tuesday, June 22).

Hide AdPolice have issued an appeal for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward and speak to them.
Sergeant Matt Sykes from Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrols department said: “An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is ongoing and we have already spoken to a number of witnesses who remained at the scene.
“However we are keen to hear from anyone else who saw what happened.
"There was a large crowd of people at the scene of the collision and we would urge anyone who has not yet spoken to police to get in touch.”
