Two men appear in court charged with the murder of Penshaw man Sean Mason

He was found with serious injuries after police were called to a block of flats in Avondale Avenue in Penshaw shortly after 3am on Saturday, May 16.

Hide AdToday, Wednesday, May 20, two men, Steven Milroy, 47, of Avondale Avenue, and Wayne Froud, 36, of Wensleydale Avenue, appeared at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court charged with his murder.
Froud appeared before District Judge Kathryn Meek during a short hearing this morning.
She told him: "You are not entitled to apply for bail in this court and I must commit this case to the crown court where you will appear on Friday, May 22, and then there will be another hearing on June 17."
This afternoon, District Judge Meek addressed Milroy and told him he would also appear at Newcastle Crown Court on the same dates.

Hide AdBoth men were remanded in custody until their next appearance.
This afternoon, Northumbria Police confirmed an 18-year-old woman arrested in connection with the incident has been released under investigation.
A third man, aged 38, who was also arrested has been released without charge.
Detective Chief Inspector Sharon Chatterton, who is leading the inquiry, said: “This is an incredibly difficult time for the family of Sean Mason and they are being supported by specialist officers.”
