Police rule out third party involvement after man's body was found in River Wear

Officers were called to Lion Place in Sunderland around 11.20am on Saturday, January 9, after a man’s body was found in the River Wear.
An investigation was launched to establish the circumstances around the death but police have since confirmed they do not believe there to be any third party involvement.

Hide AdA Northumbria Police spokesman said: "Shortly before 11.20am on Saturday we received a report of a body found in the River Wear near Lion Place.
“Emergency services attended and carried out a thorough search of the area and river, recovering the body.
“The man has since been identified and his next of kin informed. They are currently being supported by specialist officers.
“There is not believed to be any third party involvement and a report will be made for the coroner.”
