Hide AdHe pleaded guilty to racially-aggravated assault by beating at Gateshead on January 20 last year.
Nevin had attempted to steal alcohol from a 24hr Tesco store in the town but was challenged by a member staff.
When confronted by the night manager, Nevin had spat at him then tried to bite him before the pair ended up on the floor.
He then started shouting racist abuse at the victim.
Magistrates said they were satisfied the offence passed the threshold for a jail sentence due to its ‘racial element and circumstances’.
Nevin was also ordered to pay £100 compensation.
