Grandparents' devastation after campervan stolen from outside Washington home

Alexzandra Kennedy has revealed how grandparents Bob and Margaret Kennedy were left heartbroken after waking up on Sunday, May 31 to discover that their campervan had been stolen.
The Ford Transit van, which Bob had converted himself into a campervan, was stolen overnight from behind their house in South View, Fatfield.

Hide AdAlexzandra told the Echo how much the vehicle meant to her grandparents.
She said: “They have been left devastated by all of this, my grandad has put in years of work into making it a camper van.
“They would always go and see family in Scotland, Lincoln and Norwich but as it was their only mode of transport, they would also have days out at the beach and sit and have a cup of tea inside the van.
“Because they are in the high-risk category, they have been shielding during lockdown and were really looking forward to getting away in the van once it was all over.”

Hide AdNorthumbria Police confirmed that an investigation has been launched into the theft.
A spokesperson for the force said in a statement: “Shortly before 9am on Sunday, we received a report that a campervan had been stolen overnight from an address on South View, Washington.
“An investigation has been launched into the incident.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact us via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website quoting log 248 310520.”
