Appeal to find man after 'serious' Easington Lane crash saw four people taken to hospital

Detectives are now appealing for witnesses of the rush-hour crash in Easington Lane to come forward.
And an appeal has now been launched to find a male occupant in one of the vehicles who is believed to have left before police arrived.

Hide AdShortly after 8.20am on Monday, November 9, Northumbria Police received a report of a two-vehicle collision on High Street, Easington Lane at the junction with Brick Garth.
Emergency services attended and found a black Vauxhall Insignia had been in collision with black Lexus.
Pictures circulating on social media show extensive damage to the front of both vehicles.
The driver of the Lexus and three occupants of the Insignia who were at the scene were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Hide AdDetectives investigating the incident say it is ‘strongly believed’ that a forth occupant in the Insignia left the scene before emergency services arrived.
Sergeant Matt Sykes, of Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrols department, said: “Clearly this was a serious collision that resulted in four people being taken to hospital. Thankfully, their injuries are not life-threatening and all involved should make a full recovery.
“I’d like to thank those who’ve already assisted us with the investigation, as well as the patience of everyone in the Easington Lane area this morning.
“We are committed to finding out the circumstances surrounding this collision and officers are carrying out a range of enquiries into the moments that immediately preceded the incident.

Hide Ad“It is strongly believed that a fourth occupant of the Insignia left the scene prior to police attending. We are interested in this male coming forward to speak to us.
“I am also asking anybody with information to get in touch. If you were passing through the area and have dashcam footage, please take a look and come forward.”
The road was closed for more than three hours as a clear-up operation took place and officers carried out enquiries at the scene.
